Brent’s love of music and the spirit of the festival is reflected in the three prize categories: Developing U.S. Act, Developing Non-U.S. Act, and Career Act.

The Developing Act Prizes are for artists who are breaking new ground with their creativity and show the most promise in achieving their career goals. The Career Act Prize is for an established artist who appeared at SXSW to reinvent themselves or launch a new project.

Past winners include Balming Tiger, Leon Bridges, Haim, Chvrches, Courtney Barnett, Jade Bird, Anderson .Paak, Jain, Dolly Parton, Iggy Pop, Damon Albarn, Spoon, The Chills, and The Flaming Lips.

2024 Grulke Prize Winners

Developing U.S. Act - Estevie

Sarah Silva, aka Estevie, a proud first-generation Mexican American, spearheads the revival of old Latin sounds in pop. She fuses traditional Latin styles with modern pop, creating an addictive and uniquely evocative sound. Influenced by cumbia sonidera, Estevie artfully blends pop with cartoonish rhythmic layers, Norteno, and Reggaeton notes, creating a unique sound that resonates with both Latin and broader audiences.

Developing Non-U.S. Act - TENGGER

This traveling musical family made up of Pan-Asian couple Itta (from South Korea) and Marqido (from Japan), create their brand of Krautrock-inspired psychedelic New-Age drone magic through the use of voice, harmonium, toy instruments, synths and electronics. The duo originally performed under the moniker “10”, recently re-naming themselves TENGGER (meaning ‘unlimited expanse of sky’ in Mongolian) to mark a new sonic approach and the inclusion of their (now 11-year old) son Raai into the group.

Career Act - Zapp

Since Zapp’s beginnings, its heartbeat has been a joyful family affair, unleashing the vibrant imagination of the three Troutman Brothers – Larry, Roger and Lester. Vibrating with moog bass, electrifying guitar riffs and fresh, clever lyrics, the tight-knit group’s songs demonstrate a wicked sense of humor and an unmatched ability to tell colorful stories. Now led by bandleader Lester Troutman Sr., the band carries on the legacy of a tight-knit group of expert players alongside funk and soul pioneers.

Jurors for the Grulke Prize include music critics, industry professionals, and SXSW staff, many of whom knew and worked with Brent over the years.

The 2024 SXSW International and Radio Day Stage lineups are live! Catch the daytime action featuring some of the best musical talent starting today at SXSW from March 12-16.

The Radio Day Stage (located in Austin Convention Center Ballroom A) will be the perfect opportunity for you to jam out between sessions and workshops, as well as have a drink or send off a few emails on the free SXSW wi-fi. Each year we partner with radio stations that help curate the lineups and broadcast the performances live. This year's partners are KEXP's El Sonido, 88.5 KCSN The SoCal Sound, and NPR Live Session Stations.

To hear talent from around the globe, head over to the International Day Stage at the SXSW Registrant Lounge (located at 611 E. 6th St.). This year will feature artists from Canada, Netherlands, South Africa, England, Mexico, Indonesia, Puerto Rico, New Zealand, China, Italy, and more.

Open to all SXSW registrants – Music and Platinum Badge holders have primary access. All other credentials (Artist Wristband, Film & TV Badge, Interactive Badge, Music Festival Wristband) will receive secondary access.

SXSW registrants gathered for the 25th Annual SXSW Innovation Awards presented by “Patient Safety Technology Challenge.” Host SaulPaul got things amped up as he announced winners in the 11 categories along with Best in Show and People’s Choice as determined by a jury of expert judges and festival goers.

Among the Innovation Awards winners were the five honorees of the 2024 SXSW Community Service Award who inspired attendees with their stories of how they have implemented grass-roots organization and activism with the specific communities that they serve.

Additionally, Margrethe Vestager was inducted into the SXSW Hall of Fame as part of this March 11 event.

Announcing the addition of the Opening Day Keynote Panel for the 38th edition of the annual SXSW Conference, which celebrates the convergence of technology, film, television, and music.

The Keynote announced today, entitled Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen, includes feminist and champion of human rights and gender equity, New York Times bestselling author, and co-founder of The Archewell Foundation and Archewell Productions Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex; Emmy Award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author Katie Couric; two-time Golden Globe Award-nominated actress, model, entrepreneur, and New York Times bestselling author Brooke Shields; and author, sociologist, pop culture expert, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consultant at Peoplism Nancy Wang Yuen. The Keynote Session will be moderated by host of The Amendment podcast and founding Mother and Editor-at-Large for The 19th News Errin Haines.
