The company's product and / or service must have been conceived no earlier than March 11, 2021. Each company may only enter one product or service to SXSW Pitch.
A company that enters more than one product or service will not be eligible to participate in SXSW Pitch.
Each applicant is only eligible to present in one of the SXSW family of startup innovation events (SXSW Pitch, SXSW Innovation Awards, or SXSWEDU Launch). If you would like to apply for SXSW Pitch and Innovative Awards, please note you will only be eligible to participate in one.
Founders of the company applying must retain some portion of ownership in the company.
The company must not have raised over eight (8) Million Dollars in funding from combined funding sources.
The product or service must fall into one of the SXSW Pitch categories.

Each year, SXSW invites companies from all over the world to showcase their ideas to push emerging technology forward at SXSW Pitch. Companies take the stage to pitch their startup in front of a live audience and panel of industry experts, high-profile media, and venture capital and angel investors. This fast-paced competition provides a glimpse of the industry's future and the creative ideas ready to change it.

But before all the fun, there are applications. And the big question is: from conception to the SXSW Pitch stage, what is the road to a successful startup?

Define Your Mission

First and foremost, is your startup innovative and disruptive? Does your startup solve a problem? What industry will your startup transform? These are the questions to ask yourself in order to discover the core of your company.

Another pivotal question is what makes you different in your market? The answer to this will propel you forward past your competition and narrow your target audience.

Show and Tell

When you are gearing up to share your startup with the world, don't forget to introduce the team behind the name. Think of ways to highlight key members from your team and those supporting your startup. It is a great opportunity for you to connect with your audience and users while humanizing your startup in your pitch to investors.

Tip: create a video for your presentation. There’s no better way to convey a thorough sense of your project than through a demo video. Show as well as tell when you get in front of the judges.

“What do you envision for your company’s future?” is a typical question for startups. And many of the 45 companies pitching in nine categories during the 14th annual SXSW Pitch Event showed they had a clear strategy for where they want to take their business next.

But no matter what the future holds, we all benefit from the inspired and imaginative minds solving today’s problems in both emerging and traditional industries like artificial intelligence and robotics, health, immersive, and transportation.

While the metaverse with its new ways to interact with technology spanned across several categories, the trends at this year’s event also pointed to the shifts in how we’ll connect with our environment, workplace, healthcare system, and even each other.

Using XR glasses, MATSUKO brings Star Wars-like holograms of your colleagues sitting next to you in a lifelike way to your next business or team meeting. Hume AI brings emotional awareness and responsiveness to voice assistants, telehealth, social networks, and other AI systems through a platform that paves the way for AI optimized for well-being.

Other companies aim to improve outcomes for particular populations. Sonavi Labs uses AI to create a telehealth system to improve patient outcomes by diagnosing and remotely managing respiratory diseases. JusticeText is building the first centralized infrastructure to store, catalog, analyze, and share video evidence in the criminal justice system. Designed to improve outcomes for low-income criminal defendants, the platform enables greater transparency and accountability around police interactions.

The 14th annual SXSW Pitch® kicks off tomorrow, March 12, at 10am CT in Salon D/E on the fourth floor at the Hilton Austin Downtown, 500 East 4th Street.

This year’s event will feature 45 of the most innovative and cutting-edge technology companies competing in 9 categories before panels of industry experts, high-profile media professionals, and representatives from the Venture Capitalist and Angel communities, including Jim Breyer of Breyer Capital, Stacy Feld of Johnson & Johnson, Lance Armstrong of Next Ventures, Deena Shakir of Lux Capital, and former Walmart CEO Marc Lore.

Saturday, March 12's pitches will be from 25 companies in the following categories: Social & Culture; Enterprise & Smart Data; Entertainment & Content; Health, Wearables & Wellbeing; and Extended Reality & Immersive.

The competition continues on Sunday, March 13, starting again at 10am CT in Salon D/E on the fourth floor. The remaining 20 companies will pitch in the following categories: Smart Cities, Transportation & Logistics; Innovative World; Future of Work; and Artificial Intelligence, Robotics & Voice.

The winners of the 9 categories, along with Best in Show, Best Speed Pitch, Best Bootstrapped, and DEI, will be announced on Sunday, March 13 at the SXSW Pitch Award Ceremony starting at 6pm in Salon H on the sixth floor. The ceremony will be hosted by Mandela Schumacher-Hodge Dixon, Founder and CEO of Founder Gym, and Clyde Hutchinson, General Partner of Team ABC, a global venture capital firm.
